Note that organisations based in the Nordic countries are not eligible to apply.

The project must involve a minimum of three partners, including the applicant. While the applicant may not be based in a Nordic country, the project must include at least two actively participating partners from different Nordic countries. Partner eligibility is determined by the country of residence or establishment, not by nationality. (Embassies and other foreign missions should be listed under their country of operation, not the country that they represent).

Co-financing through local, national, or other funding sources from the country where the activities will take place is a prerequisite for projects to be eligible for Nordic Currents. Do you qualify as an undertaking for the purpose of EU/EEA State aid rules (see EU regulation 2023/2831)

An undertaking is any entity engaged in an economic activity regardless of its legal status, whether it operates for profit or how it is financed. An economic activity generally means offering goods or services on a market.

Funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers, including funding administered by pan-Nordic institutions and other Nordic co-operation bodies, is subject to a procedure corresponding to the EU/EEA rules on de minimis aid.
The relevant rules are set out in Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/2831 of 13 December 2023 on the application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union to de minimis aid.
Under the Regulation, the total amount of de minimis aid granted by a Member State to a single undertaking must not exceed EUR 300,000 over any period of three years.

For funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers, the funding is attributed in equal shares to Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden for the purpose of applying the de minimis rules. One fifth of the funding is therefore attributed to each country and assessed against the EUR 300.000 ceiling applicable in that country. This means that the de minimis rules, considered in isolation, allow for up to EUR 1.500.000 in Nordic Council of Ministers funding to a single undertaking over any period of three years, provided that the undertaking has not received other de minimis aid from any of the five Nordic countries that must be taken into account.
